Important changes to brake testing regulations are coming in April 2025. Stay informed with the latest updates from In Car Technology.
What is changing?
From April 2025 there will only be 2 methods to test brakes on your vehicles.
Laden Roller Brake Tests or Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring Systems (EBPMS).
What is EBPMS?
1. Data Collection: EBPMS collects data on various factors during braking events, such as vehicle speed, brake pressure, axle load, and road gradient.
2. Data Analysis: The collected data is analysed to assess the braking performance of the trailer.
3. Performance Evaluation: The system compares the actual braking performance to predefined standards and generates reports.
4. Alerting: If the system detects any issues or potential problems with the braking system, it can generate alerts to notify the fleet manager.
Benefits of EBPMS:
• Improved Safety: By monitoring braking performance, EBPMS helps identify and address potential safety issues before they lead to accidents.
• Reduced Downtime: Early detection of braking problems can help prevent breakdowns and minimise downtime.
• Cost Savings: By optimizing braking performance and reducing maintenance costs, EBPMS can contribute to significant cost savings.
• Regulatory Compliance: EBPMS can help ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
• Reduced Roller Brake Tests: EBPMS is recognised by regulatory bodies like the DVSA as an alternative to traditional roller brake tests. This means fleets can significantly reduce the frequency of these time-consuming and resource-intensive tests, leading to less downtime.
What Solution Can We Offer?
The Link 350 device from Webfleet is specifically designed for tracking trailers. Monitor speed, location and movements, ensuring you can know exactly where your trailers are at any given time. The Link 350’s can be directly linked to EBPMS giving you an intelligent all-in-one solution on your Webfleet platform.
